Goal of Project End Loneliness.

In two words:

ENDING LONELINESS

Loneliness contributes significantly to morbidity and mortality in the elderly and negatively affects all ages. Join our cause to help end loneliness!!

We reach out to seniors & children with disabilities through homemade cards.

We create keepsakes to remind and to show them that they are cared for.

Seniors, especially those who live in care facilities, are often isolated & have few social supports. In addition, we are reaching out to children with disabilities to support them as well.

We offer the ability to have penpals with these individuals to foster communication & friendship, with the goal of ending loneliness!!

Why END LONELINESS??

A study published by the Nat’l Academies of Sciences, Engineering, & Medicine (NASEM) showed :

-More than 1/3 of adults aged 45 & older feel lonely.

-Almost 1/4 of adults aged 65 & older are considered to be socially isolated due to living alone, loss of family or friends, chronic illness, & hearing loss.

Loneliness is the feeling of being alone, regardless of the amount of social contact.

Social isolation is a lack of social connections, which leads to loneliness in some people.

Others can feel lonely without being socially isolated.

Studies confirm that social isolation increases the incidence of morbidity & mortality.

Social isolation leads to:

  • Increased risk of premature death from all causes, a risk that may equal those from smoking, obesity, & physical inactivity.

  • 50% percent increased risk of dementia.

  • 29% increased risk of heart disease & a 32% increased risk of stroke.

  • Higher rates of depression, anxiety, & suicide.

  • In heart failure patients, correlated with a nearly 4X increased risk of death, 68% increased risk of hospitalization, & 57% increased risk of emergency department visits.

“We started Project End Loneliness during the pandemic, in Spring 2020, because we knew it was hard especially for elderly residents living in nursing homes. During the pandemic, our grandparents had few visitors and we realized they were often very lonely. We realized that others like our grandparents must also be feeling very lonely. We made these cards to remind them that there are people that care for them, especially because some may not be fortunate to have many people who care for them. We expanded our efforts to include children with disabilities for the same reason. Our cards, designed by us, have a handmade origami crane on them, serving as a keepsake, with a note attached inside reminding them they are cared for and offering opportunities to be penpals with us. The feedback from our cards has been incredible and we are inspired to spread these crane cards as far and wide as possible. Please help support our efforts in ending loneliness!”

We work together with our family to reach out to those who are not as fortunate.

Please donate to ensure we can continue to reach out!

Happy faces…
